Scotland is the land of romance, patriotic heroes, beautiful mountains and glens, brooding moors, and famous lochs. Rich in culture and filled with a fascinating history and intriguing legends, Scotland is a perfect choice for those looking for an interesting wedding and honeymoon location.

This nation is located on the northern section of the island of Great Briton (sharing the island with England). Together, Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland form the United Kingdom. Scotland is 274 miles long from north to south, and (depending on location) is 24 to 154 miles wide. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, with the 3 other major cities being Glascow (largest city), Aberdeen and Dundee.

The official language is English, although Gaelic is still spoken in the Highlands and on the islands. Scots (a form of English, French and Gaelic) is also spoken in the Lowlands.

Did you know that Scotland also contains 787 islands? Most are very small, with only 3 exceeding 3 square miles in area. There are 26 rivers running through beautiful land, of which 3 (the rivers Clyde, Forth, Tay) supply water to 3 of the major cities (Glasgow, Endiburgh & Dundee respectively).

Of the many beautiful locations within Scotland, Loch Ness is the most famous tourist attraction. Located in the northern part of Scotland along the Great Glen, it draws tourists year-round looking for that elusive sea-monster Nessie. The Great Glen is a natural geographical fault zone that runs across the country with many interlocking lochs located within it.

Of course, Scotland is well known for its beautiful tartans and kilts, and that interesting musical instrument -- the bagpipes. Famous for their music, dances, food and drink, Scotland contains a wealth of interesting places to visit and enjoy. Tour castles, visit quaint villages and hamlets, or have a picnic in a secluded glen. Scotland has a lot to offer for honeymooners and those planning a Scottish wedding.
